The Arts Society (formerly NADFAS) is a leading arts charity which opens up the world of the arts through a network of local Societies and national events.
The Arts Society is a national organisation which supports local Arts Societies. Each local Society brings together like-minded individuals to share their appreciation of and commitment to the arts. All local Societies have an exciting programme of monthly arts lectures, study days and gallery visits. In addition, Members have the opportunity to join a broad range of hands-on preservation and conservation projects.
The Arts Society Cheam has a varied programme of Lectures, Visits and Social Events:
Lectures: We meet every third Thursday* of the month at St Andrews United Reformed Church, Northey Avenue, Cheam. The lectures start at 10.30am and usually run for an hour. Coffee and tea are available before the lecture.
Lecturers are selected by the Programme Secretary from a comprehensive directory provided by The Arts Society. They are all Society accredited and have been through The Arts Society's rigorous selection procedure.
* Please note we do not have a lecture in August and the December meeting is brought forward to the first Thursday in the month.
Visits: Visits to venues of historic or artistic interest are arranged each year. In the past these visits have included: A tour of the Fan Museum at Greenwich in October 2022 and in 2023, Lift 109 at Battersea Power Station, Chiswick House, Chelsea Physic Garden, Leighton House and Tate Britain to visit the Women in Revolt exhibition.
Tours: Extended tours to places of interest in the UK and abroad which, in 2022, included a trip to the Austrian Lakes which culminated in The Passion Play in Oberammergau and a 4 night trip to Birmingham and surrounds. In July 2023 we had a 4 night trip to the Historic Houses of Bristol.
The Arts Society Cheam also participates in a Young Arts Programme.
